REVIEW: Harry Potter & The Cursed Child (National Theatre)
I’m doing things a little differently this time.
I have a duty on this blog to report on all of the theater that rolls into town, from community productions to high-budget Broadway tours. I was excited to see Cursed Child come to DC this summer, and I have written a review from the opening night performance with all of my original, honest thoughts as usual.
But I would be remiss to ignore JK Rowling’s aggressive rhetoric and actions towards the trans community. This blog would not be here if not for the support of the trans people in my life, and I am hesitant to publish anything that could encourage fiscal support for this stance against them.
So here’s my compromise: this review is paywalled, for the first and only time in this blog’s history.
100% of the proceeds will be donated to trans activism charities in the UK, split between Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence. Both I have supported before and am proud of the work they do.
You can donate to get access here.
The paywall will be active through the entirety of Cursed Child’s DC run, which ends September 7th, 2025.
